We are conducting a study to see how campers' attitudes toward science may change as a result of attending BEST Camp. This research study serves as a way to evaluate the camp to determine whether it has a positive effect on campers' experience of science. The study is entirely voluntary and consists of a survey that is completed at the beginning and the end of the camp week. Although all campers will complete a camp survey, only the surveys provided by the campers who have voluntarily agreed to participate and whose parent or guardian have also given their consent will be used in the study. There are no right or wrong answers to the questions on the survey.
Participants in the study will also be contacted over the next few years to fill out a follow-up survey on the internet relating to their experience at BEST camp. Again, this step is voluntary.
By incorporating this research study into the camp experience, we hope to continue to develop BEST Camp in a such a way to successfully provide a positive scientific experience for middle school boys.
